Monday 11th May
Happy Monday morning to you all,
I hope you all had a lovely bank holiday weekend. What beautiful weather we had on Friday and Saturday. I wonder if you took part in any VE day celebrations with your family? Kaiden made a fantastic poster with his dad and sister and you can see it below. Well done all of you; very impressive!
This week I have added a Speed Spell challenge for the Year 2s. This was something we did this on Monday morning to recap spellings we needed to know and had been working on. I wonder how many you will get right? Year 2s I will put a spelling challenge on for you this Friday which will be based on this week’s phonic sound ‘oa’ (and alternative ‘oa’ sounds – ow, oe and o-e). That should give you a chance to revise them.
I hope you might have a go at writing a poem this week. It would be lovely to get some of them up on the website. If you want to enjoy listening to some poems to get some inspiration Michael Rosen has some that might make you smile or try the poetry archive website below.
P.S. Mums and Dads, as we start a new week, remember you are all doing a great job, and please feel free to adapt the learning to work for you and your child. If you need any support or just a chat, email GC office or you can call me at Empingham school on Wednesday.
Tuesday 12th May
Good morning boys and girls,
What a windy day it was yesterday! I think it's going to be a little less windy today.
There are some lovely photos of Kia enjoying his VE day celebrations on Friday, and Ethan sent in a picture of Garfield (his cat) trying to get inside his castle model. Have a look at them in the photo section. Your photos always put a smile on my face, and I bet your friends like to see them too. The boys do seem to be winning the 'sending in photos competition' though. Come on girls, where are you? I expect you are all so busy working you don't have time to take photos!
I hope all you Year 2s had a go at the spellings yesterday. How did you do? I wonder if you have remembered some of the rules we've learnt. Year 1s, don't forget your spelling challenge is coming on Friday!
Have a lovely day.
Wednesday 13th May
I hope you noticed the photos of Lily and Jasmine celebrating their birthday. It looks like they had a great day and I can't believe how grown up they look. I do believe we have another birthday to celebrate later this week, then no more until June.
I had a lovely day yesterday sorting out your learning for next week! Then I went for a long country walk and enjoyed looking at all the nature. So far in the last week I've seen two hares, tadpoles, loads of rabbits and a muntjack deer. I wonder what you've noticed. You might like to take a look at the osprey at Rutland Water as Maya and 33 have returned to their nest again this year.
Do you remember Ken coming to school to talk to us about them last year?
Well I am at Empingham school today so feel free to call the office if you want a chat.
See you soon
Thursday 14th May
Did you know it's George's birthday today and he is now 7. Happy Birthday George we all hope you have a lovely day today and we look forward to having a big Happy Birthday sing song for everyone who has had a birthday when we get back to school.
I had a great day at Empingham school yesterday, and while I was there I received some photos from Junior who has been really busy working on his spellings (see the results below). We all know that Junior likes a challenge and as if getting all his spellings right wasn't enough, he has also been catching some huge fish. In his spare time he took a little walk just to check out if the school is still where we left it and I'm very pleased to say it is! Take a look at the photos page to see what I'm talking about.
Lily And Jasmine have been working really hard again. I love your hand washing posters girls (see below). I think we're going to need some of them in school once we go back - now there's a task for anyone who needs something to do!
Have a great Thursday

Friday 15th May
How does it get to be Friday sooo quickly?
Well it's Golden Time today so make sure you pick something fun to do and get yourself ready for the weekend. I do believe the weather is going to warm up again.
Kia and Junior sent me their amazing acrostic poems and I shared them with my whole family. Everybody was really impressed, so well done you two, you should feel really proud. Take a look at them below, they made me feel quite emotional! Lovely to hear from Joshua yesterday too. He's been really busy doing some tricky maths work and getting it all right. Great job Joshua. Also Joshua told me that he has a new addition to his family and she's called Darcey!! Not our lovely Year 1 Darcey, but another lovely Darcey. Take a look at his photo below to see who his Darcey is.
OK Year 1s, your spelling challenge for this week can be found in our weekly plans section, and I have chosen all the words because they contain the oa sound ( remember it could be written as oa, ow, or o-e). Good luck.
Enjoy your weekend everyone,
