Spring Term 1
Happy New Year.
I hope you all had a lovely Christmas holiday and kept fit and healthy.
I'm really looking forward to this term, and although the weather is usually a bit grim we have lots of fun learning to get on with. We are going to be finding out all about the countries of the United Kingdom. If you look at the Knowledge Organiser for this term you will see the children will be learning the names and capital cities of each of the four countries of the UK as well as the similarities and differences between them. To link with this our first block of Literacy will be based on 'The Queen's Hat' book, which is a story featuring lots of famous London landmarks. In Science we will continue to study the seasons and think about what changes occur as we move through the Winter months and into the Spring. In Art we will be studying printing and we are very lucky to have the talented Mrs Muttett coming in on Wednesday afternoons to teach this.
Year 2 children will continue working on spelling rules using our Oxford Owl scheme of work, and these will be sent out on Friday for a test the following Friday. Year 1 will be working on column 2 of the common exception words and will have a spelling challenge towards the end of the term.
This term I will be sending home passwords for ttrockstars for Year 2 children. This is a website we use at school to support children with their learning of times tables so that by Year 3 they are fluent in their 2, 5 and 10 times tables.
Please continue to read with your child at home. This is one of the most important things you can do to help your child make progress. Those children who read at both home and school are more confident, fluent readers than those children who just read at school.
