Serena Williams

Our class this year is named after Serena Williams the tennis player. We chose her as our inspirational person as she is amazing for her resilience in facing challenges. She is resourceful, using different skills to do different jobs and she is also great at being collaborative, working with her sister to win many trophies.

In our class the children will be taught by Mrs Wood on Mon and Tuesday and Mrs Hughes on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Mrs Bradshaw will be in the classroom every afternoon. Mrs Budden and Mrs Leddington will also be helping us throughout the week.

Maths

KS1 work from the White Rose scheme and you can find parent booklets to support the work we do in class in the folder below.

EYFS follow Power Maths.

Reading and Phonics is one of the most important subjects we teach in EYFS and Key Stage 1 and we aim to support the children to become fluent readers by the time they move to KS2. Please help your child with this by reading regularly at home. We follow the Read Write Inc phonics scheme and children will bring home books and resources linked to this. We do have a meeting about this in Term 1 but please do ask if you need any help with supporting your child.

Our PE will take place on and Monday and Thursday afternoons but kits should remain in school for the half term. Please make sure all kit is named as this does help both the adults and the children find and return missing items. As the weather gets cooler children will need warmer sweat shirts and joggers as we may still go outside.

Homework

KS1

- daily reading at home is the most important thing you can do, and we will send home new reading books on Monday and Thursday each week. These books will be at the level your child is working, so they should be able to read or decode most of the words. Reading each book more than once will improve your child's fluency, confidence and understanding.

- Tough Ten (10 mental arithmetic questions) will be sent home on Tuesday. Please can they be returned to school on the following Monday.
