Bear Grylls
Our class this year is named after Bear Grylls. We chose him as our inspirational person as he is amazing for his resilience in facing challenges, including climbing Mount Everest. He also demonstrates a dedication to teaching others, especially young people in his television shows and his role as the former Chief Scout.
In our class the children will be taught by Mrs Wood on Mon - Thurs and Mrs Bradshaw on Friday. Mrs Budden, Mrs Frost and Mrs Leddington will also be helping us throughout the week.
These are the topics we will be covering through the year. Each term you will receive an overview giving your more detail about what each topic will include.
Term 1 - Toys and Technology
Term 2 - Significant Individuals
Term 3 - The United Kingdom
Term 4 - Australia
Term 5 - Pirates
Term 6 - Summer Holidays
In Maths we work from the White Rose scheme and you can find parent booklets to support the work we do in class in the folder below.
Reading and Phonics is one of the most important subjects we teach in Key Stage 1 and we aim to support the children to become fluent readers by the time they move to KS2. Please help your child with this by reading regularly at home. We follow the Read Write Inc phonics scheme and children will bring home books and resources linked to this. We do have a meeting about this in Term 1 but please do ask if you need any help with supporting your child.
Our PE will take place on and Wednesday and Friday but kits should remain in school for the half term. Please make sure all kit is named as this does help both the adults and the children find and return missing items. As the weather gets cooler children will need warmer sweat shirts and joggers as we may still go outside.
Homework for this first term will be daily reading at home and we will send home new reading books on Monday and Thursday. These books should be at the level your child is working, so they should be able to read or decode most of the words. Reading each book more than once will improve your child's fluency, confidence and understanding. Please do fill in the home/school reading record when you read with your child. This does help us to know if your child has read their book and is ready for a new one.
Please don't hesitate to approach me with any concerns or questions. There will always be an adult on the playground when children arrive in the morning and also at the end of the day. If you need to talk to me you can also phone or email the office to ask for a meeting, or for me to contact you.
