Beatrix Potter

Term 1

Once Upon a Time

In our English lessons we will be reading and writing fairy tales and writing instructions. Children will continue with their phonics lessons on a daily basis and reading at both home and school should be a high priority.

Our main focus subjects will be Design and Technology, where we will be designing, making and evaluating a moving vehicle, and Geography which will involve the looking at globes, atlases and maps and making our own maps.

Take a look at the Term 1 Newsletter for more detail.

Our Maths is taken from the White Rose scheme and you can find parent booklets to support the work we do in class in the folder below.

PE will take place on and Wednesday and Friday but kits should remain in school for the half term. Please make sure all kit is named as this does help both the adults and the children find and return missing items. As the weather gets cooler children will need warmer sweat shirts and joggers as we may still go outside.

Homework for this first term will be daily reading at home and we will send home new reading books on Monday (this will be one they haven't read yet) and Thursday (this will be one they have read in their phonic group already). These books should be at the level your child is working, so they should be able to read or decode most of the words. Reading each book more than once will improve your child's fluency, confidence and understanding. Please do fill in the home/school reading record when you read with your child. This does help us to know if your child has read their book and is ready for a new one.

Please don't hesitate to approach me with any concerns or questions. There will always be an adult on the playground when children arrive in the morning and also at the end of the day.
