Julia Donaldson
Welcome to Julia Donaldson Class
Term 1 - All About Me
This term we will be learning all about our bodies and how amazing they are. We will also be learning lots about each others families, and our similarities and differences. In our Phonics we will be following the Read Write Inc scheme, and will be learning the Set 1 sounds. There will be an opportunity for you to attend a phonic workshop later in the term, where you will gain a greater understanding of how your child will be learning to read.
This term in our maths we will be focussing on numbers to 5.
Our Christian Value this term is Endurance and our Learn to Learn Value is Readiness.
Term 2 - Festivals and Celebrations
Our topic in term 2 is Festivals and Celebrations. Children will be learning about different festivals and celebrations, some of which they may have some prior experience of and some maybe completely new! One of which is Christmas, during this term the children will be taking part in a Nativity with Class 1. The children will continue to learn Set 1 sounds in their phonics and will be introduced to reading short dittys (short pieces of texts). In maths the children will be continuing to build on and compare numbers up to 7, along with being introduced to simple addition and subtraction.
Our Christian value is Hope and our Learn to Learn is Resilience.
Term 3 - Julia Donaldson
This term the children will be exposed to some of the wonderful Julia Donaldson stories, including some of her most famous stories such as The Gruffalo and the Snail and the Whale. In our phonics the children will be introduced to some Set 2 sounds and story books. They will begin to use their phonic knowledge to write words and simple sentences. In maths we will be working on numbers, including number bonds and automatically recalling number facts and the composition of numbers.
Our Christian value is Friendship and our Learn to Learn is Respect.
Term 4 - Spring
Our topic this term is Spring, the children will explore seasonal changes and the joy of new life. This topic ties in nicely with our RE focus Easter. In our phonics the children will continue to work on Set 2 sounds, becoming more fluent with their decodable books. This will help build confidence in word reading, fluency, understanding and enjoyment. In maths we continue to master numbers to 10 and investigate comparisons between height and length.
Our Christian value is Forgiveness and our Learn to Learn is Reflection.
Term 5 - People Who Help Us
Our topic this term is People Who Help Us, firstly at home, school, and in the wider community. In this term we have lots of visits from various people talking about the jobs they do and how they help us in our day to day lives. In phonics the children will continue to learn/use Set 2 sounds within their independent writing. The main focus will be making phonetically plausible attempts when writing more complex words. This will include the use of finger spaces between words. In maths the children will be working on building and identifying numbers to 20, and more complex addition and subtraction.
Our Christian Value is Trust and our Learn to Learn is Responsibility.
Term 6 - Holidays/ Journeys
This topic allows the children to talk and reflect upon holidays they have been on and places they have visited and places they have been. Explore different countries and different modes of transport, now and in the past. As always in EYFS we follow the children's interests and are excited to see where the topics takes us!
